Peaceful, beautiful property

We enjoyed the property very much. The house was cute. The grounds offer the beauty of the Maine woods alongside the tidal river, with many nooks to relax.

What wonderful memories we made last week!

I asked Scout to name her favorite thing from our visit to Maine and she said the Fairy Walk. I asked if she meant at the botanical gardens and she said, “No, across the road at our house. It was the best!”  Piper loved the rainbow hammock and swinging with her uncle there, listening to the bullfrogs in the pond. My best times were watching the girls run and play on your beautiful grounds during the day, and sitting around the enormous barn door table playing cards with the adults at night after the girls were in bed. What a perfect place for a family to gather. And we each could find a separate spot outside in the yard or on the decks or porch or in the huge library for some quiet, alone time if needed. The night sky was also beautiful. We all went out on the deck together Friday night and identified all the constellations we could. It was a relaxing week in Boothbay. We left full of lobster rolls, crab cakes, and happy memories. We rendezvoused in Brunswick at Wild Oats and discussed a return visit to your beautiful property in the future. I can’t wait for the opportunity.

Colorful Week in Maine

Super location. Lots of room to spread out in house. Very unique and quirky residence that made us feel instantly at home. Beautiful property with so much to do and so much space for kids to run and play. Perfect for bike rides and runs and water fun. Super close to town. Owner extremely helpful with a wealth of knowledge and recommendations for fun in the area.

Just the right selection for our entire family.

I wanted to take a few moments to share a unique and rewarding experience we encountered at the Bold Colorful Life Inn in Boothbay, Maine. Fifteen acres of pristine forest,  a shoreline of unmatched majesty, and an 1850s vintage home with period antiques adorned us. Our wonderful hostess, Melissa, too the time to meet us as we arrived and shared a friendly wave and an orientation that prepared us to enjoy every detail of this incredible place and region. The home offered every nuanced convenience while accentuating the holistic period of significant historical value. Whether guests enjoy kayaking, swimming, hiking, experiencing beautiful wildlife while wandering the forest, pcking berries or simply exploring the region, it all awaits Quiet, peace, rest and uninterrupted sleep were all added experiences we encountered, as our hostess even scheduled maintenance around our quiet times. Our stay was more than a rental, it was home and a fascinating home at that. Melissa's 18 years personally caring for this incredibly beautiful site at one with nature, shows at every turn. Well done, Melissa. Thanks for everything. Wayne and family

Awesome property!

We had a delightful stay at this home! Melissa was a gracious host and greeted us to review the grounds and property! She kept in constant communication throughout our week and gave us great recommendations for local restaurants and activities. My children and grandchildren enjoyed using the kayaks. The setting was peaceful and quiet. The house was equipped with anything you might need! The layout worked perfectly for our multigenerational family. I would definitely recommend!

This home was a perfect spot for our family gathering of 11. On a beautifully landscaped property, there was plenty of space to explore and many additional outdoor spaces to sit, relax and simply enjoy the beautiful outdoors and waterview. The kitchen was well stocked and equipped to allow for many enjoyable dinners in the spacious dining area. A front porch, back deck and other outdoor spaces allowed for informal gatherings. Melissa greeted us upon our arrival and provided a tour of the property, home and lots of useful information that would prove to make our stay enjoyable.

Beautiful Haven in Boothbay!

We rented the Cape for my husband and I, plus our adult children and their families. This is a very home-like rental, surrounded by beautiful grounds and right on the river. It was exactly what we expected for an 1880s east-coast home; it reminded me of my grandmother's property. Melissa is a very enthusiastic and caring host. This is the perfect rental if you are looking for a charming old home with lots of character, privacy, nature and active outdoor options.

Beautiful Haven in Boothbay!

My father, who will be 90 soon, grew up visiting his cousins in Maine. He wanted the whole family to go again and stay in one big house! There were 12 of us and one, my mother, is physically disabled and can’t do stairs. This house worked perfectly for us! There was a handicapped accessible bedroom and bathroom on the first floor and lots of space to gather in. We were able to have all 12 people eat meals together at the huge dining table. The grounds are beautiful and there are several kayaks you can borrow. There is a view of the river from the back deck and we saw deer and a groundhog out back! It is very peaceful and secluded, but still not far from town. Melissa was great to work with and very communicative! We would definitely stay there again!

A memorable family vacation!

Hi Melissa,

I just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed our week. The house is wonderful; we especially loved the dining table and the great room. Sometimes there were at least four conversations going on at once. Our son-in-law Jon cooked breakfast every morning, which gave us a great start to our days. Had a lobster feast courtesy of our cousin Bruce and his wife. We drove home by way of the Delmarva peninsula and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. So much better than through Maryland and Virginia.
A memorable family vacation!

Wonderful, relaxing stay in a beautiful location

We had a wonderful stay at Bold Colorful Life! From the moment we arrived to such a warm welcome from Melissa, we felt so relaxed. There is so much attention to detail and the amount of care that Melissa puts into the house and grounds is truly impressive. She gave us great recommendations for places to go and restaurants to eat. The location also can't be beat. It is close to all of the attractions but in a wonderfully quiet place to relax at the end of a busy day. We enjoyed walking down to the river multiple times and exploring the other trails on the property as well. Thank you for a fantastic stay, Melissa! We will certainly be back.

An absolute delight!

We had a fabulous, cozy stay in the darling Cape House, which looked straight out of a storybook, and spent our time there cooking up a storm in the kitchen, enjoying the walking trails, and savoring gorgeous sunsets over the water. The property is absolutely beautiful and its location ideal-- its easy access to local hikes in particular made our stay equal parts outdoor fun and indoor comfort. The cottage is as beautifully maintained as it is romantic and we stayed cozy and warm inside during our stay.
Melissa's warmth, humor, and gracious hosting is absolutely unparalleled. We truly felt like family! She's thought of everything-- it was impossible to be bored at Bold Colorful Life. We left truly excited to return.

November 19-23, 2022 Cape rental

Our group of four had a wonderful stay just before Thanksgiving 2022. We stayed in the charming and historic Cape house, which had plenty of room. The rooms are cozy and well furnished. Rustic touches abound such as the kitchen sink original to the house built in the 1800s, and the nicely refinished pine floors and other original building features. But essential modern conveniences are included such as wifi, TVs, and a washer/dryer.

The location is great for nearby attractions! We did the holiday light show at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, really fabulous. It's an easy drive to Boothbay Harbor and other towns such as Wiscasset. We hiked quite a few trails in the area, really enjoyed the rocky and picturesque shorelines.

If you are bringing a larger group, staying in the Farmhouse would be a great option. The kitchen and dining area there are super for a large group, and the bedrooms are brightly and nicely decorated. Thank you, Melissa, for a great stay!

Jammie Day Weekend

My daughter and I have spent many years visiting Bold Colorful Life, and also have now asked other family and and friends to detox with us! We love spending time at the Inn and we feel spoiled with the lovely, clean, spacious accommodations! The bedrooms are so colorful and bright, as well as private! The kitchen and great room have spectacular views of the Back River too!

Our annual visit is always something we look forward to and enjoy the best hospitality around! We love staying at Melissa’s farmhouse!
It’s a beautiful place and location-so much to see and experience! The sea coast, botanical gardens, as well as Boothbay, quintessentially New England!

August 7-21, 2022 Cape rental

We stayed here with various family members (college age, teen, tween, grandma, parents). We found the property to be relaxing and a nice place to gather. The fire pit was genius and we used it several times - a great way to end our evenings.

The river and kayaks were a treat. The area once you're on the water is beautiful. Just beware that this is a river - there is no beach at the water to stand or relax on, and if you hit it at low tide, there is a lot of thick mud to contend with. The house is cozy (we stayed at the smaller Cape, and although we didn't see the inside of the Farmhouse, that might be a better option for a bigger group). The house was perfectly clean. The location was great - just a 10 minute or so drive into Boothbay, a quick drive to the botanic gardens.

We went somewhere every day, and it was centrally located for day trips to other towns and beaches. It was a nice place to come home to and relax at the ends of our days.

July 30-August 13, 2022 Farmhouse rental

Fabulous! This is so much more than a rental house in a beautiful spot. The kitchen is better stocked with cooking equipment than any place we have stayed. The rooms are all very comfortable, especially the big sitting room with views of the Back River, which also has a good library. The deck gives great views onto the extensive grounds, which are what separate Melissa's place from others: beautiful walks everywhere, a mix of gardens and wild flowers, with hammocks and benches, in shade and sun, for reading and napping, and kayaks at the ready down by the water. Be sure to paddle to the west side of the river, directly opposite the house and beyond the small bird-covered isle in the middle, to see seals feeding--and peering at you.

It's an easy drive to two good swimming spots, at Hendricks Cove and Ocean Point. Miles of good running on country roads.

However marvelous these amenities are, it is Melissa that makes it special. Her desire for us to have a wonderful stay was apparent from our first communications. She gave us a gracious introduction when we arrived, then let us do our thing for the two weeks we were there. She was always responsive the few times we had any questions. The place is filled with touches that could only be hers, showing how committed she is not only to making something beautiful, but wonderful for all who visit. I do hope we can get back soon!

The Bold Colorful Life property in Boothbay is even better than advertised.

It's 15 acres of heaven on earth. From the beautiful water views of the Sheepscot River from the back deck, to the library room and hiking trails we found it difficult to pull ourselves away from the property. But when we did venture out we got to enjoy the spectacular Boothbay region surrounds. What a wonderful vacation! A BIG "thank you" to our host Melissa. Her hospitality was second to none.

Peaceful vacation with special touches

Perfect place to let go of cares and re-fuel your spirit in the most sublime waterfront setting. Went with my partner and both of us regretted not being able to stay longer. The hostess/owner was charming, with a remarkable ability to make us feel at home without being intrusive. And since color is a “thing” with me, I was thrilled to see it cleverly used everywhere indoors as a wonderful contrast to the serene outdoor surroundings. Hope to return the Colorful Life sooner than later!

Relaxing Contemplative Journey

I was filled with a sense of calm and restfulness the moment I entered Melissa's property. We could not have been more pleased with our homey yet romantic lodging. Everything we could need and more. The few requests we made were handled swiftly and graciously. Definitely one of our top travel experiences and we have been all over the world. So if you enjoy low key tranquil loveliness without intrusive hustle and bustle with nature near at hand, this is the spot for you. We had a wonderful time at Bold Colorful Life. Our group received a warm greeting from the owner. The Cape house was charming! The whole house was well equipped, especially the kitchen. My bed was very comfortable with an attached bath. The property is gorgeous! There is so much to do and see on this estate, winding manicured paths lead to enchanting corners all over the property. The gardens and pond are magical and the water access is an added bonus.

Our large family just returned from a relaxing, fun filled vacation at the inn. What a gorgeous piece of property and lovely, comfortable farmhouse! We enjoyed breath taking views and the most comfortable and quiet rooms. For the first time in 14 years visiting the area, I didn't hear a thing from the loud snorers in our group nor from the late night talkers in the family room downstairs. Melissa was a wonderful host who provided us with complete privacy and quick responsiveness when we had questions. We had people in our group from 1 to 83 and everyone was entertained. The oldest and youngest did stay away from the shore which is a bit steep for folks with mobility issues. We found everything we needed in the house and it was very convenient to Boothbay Harbor which was fun but not quite as delightful as cooking meals in the amazing kitchen and enjoying them on the deck.

A Fabulous Experience

We arrived to find the most amazing Estate ever. The grounds are beautiful, the house exceptional and the owner Melissa the perfect hostess. She gave us the grand tour, plus a whole lot more. She gave us tips on where to dine, shop and sight see. Booth Bay is the perfect getaway. We all returned rejuvenated and ready to march on. Five stars is not a high enough rating in our book. Idyllic property in Boothbay Maine

We just spent a week at Bold Colorful Life, an idyllic property in Boothbay. Five of us, former ski buddies, chose this beautiful farmhouse for our reunion. The interior boasts five colorful bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom, a soaring library, a large well equipped kitchen and dining room and a loft area with additional seating. Outside, we were provided with lots of room to spread out. There are large decks that overlook magnificent grounds and the ever changing tide of Back River, which is easily accessed by the mowed paths that intertwine the property. I spent a lot of time reading on the back deck and watching the many varieties that frequent the feeders. Also placed throughout the lovely landscaped grounds are benches where one can find solitude and serenity. Melissa was the perfect host; welcoming, considerate and very helpful. I would definitely recommend this beautiful home to anyone who enjoys getting away from it all.

Very Special Place

This is a very special property. We are a family of 5 and stayed in the smaller cape house. It was plenty big for us. The property is just beautiful. The view from the front porch is beautiful and its a great place for morning coffee or evening drinks. We enjoyed the kayaks twice in the evenings. That was a highlight of our trip. The fairy walk was very cool. It was our first time in Maine and the forest was just magical.

Melissa is a very responsive and super helpful host. All of her restaurant and site seeing recommendations were great.

August 15-22 Farmhouse rental
Our family of 5 and our friend's family of 4 all stayed in the Farmhouse together. There was plenty of room for all of us. Each bedroom has it's own bathroom. The house has so much charm. We enjoyed the house and the grounds. Our children (ages 3, 7, 9, 11, and 13) loved waking up every morning and taking a stroll around the property picking (and eating) all the wild blackberries, raspberries, and even some blueberries! The sunsets were amazing from the back porch as well as the stars at night. We even used the fire pit for smore's a couple nights while we were there. Melissa was a wonderful host with lots of knowledge of the area. She gave us lots of great suggestions of must see sites, hikes, and even the best places to get lobster and fresh Maine blueberry pie (you must try the blueberry pie from Pinkham's). We all had a such a great time and cannot wait to plan another trip there.

August 15-22 Farmhouse rental
We stayed in the farmhouse for a week and had a wonderful time! The property is beautiful and offers many opportunities to explore on-site. The sunsets from the deck overlooking the river were incredible. Our kids particularly enjoyed the frogs in the pond, berry picking, apple picking, walking down to the water, and the fire pit. Melissa is wonderful - she is warm and welcoming, and has great tips on where to go in the area for beautiful hikes and day trips, which were perfect for the range of kids w us from ages 3-13. The house was spacious and had everything you need. We would love to go back for another vacation.

Thank you so much for a wonderful week and for sharing your beautiful home with us! We had such a great time and it was such a pleasure to meet you! Life felt almost normal for the week, which is pretty incredible at the moment. We also wanted to let you know how much we appreciated your recommendations for hikes and day trips--the ones we got to were all amazing! Thank you again and hopefully we will find our way back to you and Maine soon!

Beautiful property, great location, warm and engaged host

This is so wonderful. You just can't imagine what it's like for those who have been really locked down in tiny apartments in NYC area to be outdoors for a week. And for those of us who have been in the heat of Virginia to enjoy this heavenly outdoors...And cool weather! I am sitting on the back porch and hearing the frogs...

Rented the farmhouse for our extended family of seven for a week during the COVID summer of 2020. The entire process, from pre-contract disucssion to check-in through check-out was easy, thoughtful, and safely accomplished.
Melissa, the property owner and host, is near-enough to interact with when needed (and also to provide fresh vegetables!), but never intrusive on her guests' use of the house and property.
The home is fully equipped, from the kitchen with its myriad appliances, utensils, plates, pantry staples, etc., to the colorful bedrooms, each with a clean and fully functional bathroom. The library is a wonderful place to relax , read, play piano, or take a nap, the porch is great for watching the river over a morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine, and the walking paths, hammocks, pond, fire pit, and river all provide ample opportunity to enjoy being outdoors in the pleasant Maine weather.
Outdoor activities are abundant, both on the property and off, and Melissa provided many useful suggestions for how we could take advantage of all.

All in all, it was a great week at a great location, and we all agreed that we would love to do it again.

Had a great time here!

Elegant Boothbay Waterfront Estate-15 acres/Garden, Trails, Wildlife

Just back from 8 nights at Bold Colorful Life and had a total blast? We were a party of eight---four adults and four 9- and 10-year old girls---and everything about this place was great. The kitchen and dining area are spacious and well-equipped, the deck large with a great view of the river (and some occasional pesky mosquitoes), the bedrooms comfortable and quirky. The property itself is fantastic--tons of places to explore, a pond to see endless frogs in and a lovely river to kayak in during high tide. Melissa, the owner, is charming, responsive and had many great recommendations. The house is close enough to Boothbay (~10 mins), yet far away for some privacy, which we appreciated. And there are so many great things to do nearby: hiking, swimming at Knickerbocker Pond (highly recommended!), lighthouses, Pemaquid Beach, Ocean Point, Monhegan Island. It was a bit too far from Acadia NP for a day trip, but a quick hour to Camden State Park for some good hiking. All in all, it's a perfect place for a group getaway. Highly recommended and we'd happily stay here again.

Great family stay!

Great location! We had a blast with the kayaks on the river, many scenic spots around the property, and enjoyed the large fire pit. The house has plenty of beds and is on a lovely property. Melissa gave us a tour before our stay (virtually), and then was nice enough to volunteer a group photo at the end of our stay. We'll stay with Melissa again!

March - May 31 Cape rental

We were extremely fortunate to find availability at the Cape House (the smaller of the two guesthouses) on Melissa's beautiful property right before statewide lockdowns began. We were looking for an affordable long stay away from Boston and couldn't have imagined a better place to get away and enjoy each other's company surrounded by peaceful nature. It was cold for most of the 3 months we stayed (Maine winters are long!) but the house was very cozy - perfect for cooking family style meals and board games - and there were some walks both on the property and in the numerous nearby nature preserves that were spectacular even in late Winter. And when the weather warmed up late Spring the place really blossomed with bright greens and vibrant wild flowers. We grilled on the big deck and enjoyed the big fire pit listening to frogs sing though the evenings. My favorite spot was in the hammock down by the barn were you could take in some sun and listen to the soft sea breeze rustle the leaves of the surrounding trees. Pandemic stress melted away at Bold Colorful Life. Kudos to Melissa for creating and providing such a wonderful environment. Unfortunately Boothbay was essentially closed during our stay so we weren't able to enjoy the town, but the waterfront looked amazing and surely we'll come back some time to visit.

Amazingly Beautiful Place to Just Be

This was our first family vacation since the kids were little and now they wanted to bring their kids to their favorite vacation place: Boothbay Harbor. This Estate allowed us to do so and spend wonderful, quality time together. The property is just immaculately cared for and offers something for everyone. Melissa, the owner, has created such a comfortable home away from home with everything one could need, including for the kids. They loved being able to run and squeal and giggle, play, and use their imaginations all around the beautiful property. The kitchen was awesome, all the rooms were inviting and the beds were comfy!!!

The back porch and all the wonderful grounds gave me PEACE in God's amazing creation!! Everyone got to kayak, some for the first time!! Plenty of room for a large group to eat together inside and out and the firepit was to die for!! Melissa has provided a great washer and 2 dryers that work really well and are so helpful with 6 kids!! She has created a great Fairy Walk that the kids had fun exploring and building a Tee-Pee and climbing the rock. (This is a full size walk, not like a little mini garden.)

The fresh water pond has lots of pretty little turtles, but my favorite part was the beautiful music the frogs made. :-) The fields were alive with butterflies due to the wonderful wild flowers throughout the property. She keeps a wide path mowed but otherwise, wildflowers and raspberries (that were delicious) and pretty grasses are growing madly and wonderfully all over. I could go on but truly, this place is to be experienced to fully appreciate all it has to offer. Melissa does a fantastic job keeping up such a huge property. Pricing is pretty typical for Maine rental but split among families, it's so affordable.

July 20-27 Farmhouse rental

Thank you dear Melissa, our super hostess!
To celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, we invited our daughter and son with their families, to spend a week at beautiful Bold Colorful Life.
We, 10 in total, came from Amsterdam, Portugal and St. Simon's Island, GA all the way to Maine and had booked the Farmhouse a year and a half in advance.
None of us had ever been in Maine, and it was a huge adventure to explore the very attractive Boothbay area and surroundings with, as home base, the beautiful, spacious house with lovely views over the Back River and the gorgeous parkland garden, which also contains a fire pit. We used the pit several times. It also was great fun to use the on-site kayaks and we took several swims in the warm waters of the Knickerbocker Lake, a short ride from the house.

From the moment we first saw the house we were enchanted and knew our family reunion would be a success. This turned out to be very true, not in the last place due to the great hospitality of the owner, who was always available to answer our questions, a very gracious hostess.
We loved all the colorful accents in the house, the amazing dining room table, the gorgeous living room/library, the various spacious decks with plenty of tables and chairs, the well equipped kitchen.

Thank you Melissa, for a great vacation at a fantastic place.

June 22-29 Farmhouse rental

Family of 10 looking to spend a week together before 2 of the grandkids head off to college and this was a perfect home for it. We were looking for an affordable home that had plenty of bedrooms/bathrooms, a large dining area where we could all sit together, and was located along the coast of Maine. This home checked all the boxes.

The home sits on a large piece of property with plenty of walking trails and outdoor activities. Unfortunately for us it was black fly/mosquito season. After a very wet spring it was nearly impossible to enjoy a walk in the woods without the bugs swarming around.

Highlights for us were spending time in the family room reading a book from the home’s extensive library, playing board games or enjoying a family meal at the large dining table, sitting around the campfire, or just hanging out on the porch sharing stories.

We arrived and the property and home was just like the pictures. There was 10 of us and everyone had their own space. The owner was there and very informative about the area. We had a wonderful 80th birthday celebration. Now we have 3 80 year-olds in our family!

The Way Life Should Be

August 11-18, 2018 Farmhouse rental

You will find a bright and beautiful oasis at Melissa's place--her flair for decorating and love of color come through in every room. The natural splendor of Maine is a backdrop--and some in our party wanted the stunning views and wildlife to be more front and center versus the home decor--but either way, your senses will be dazzled by beauty. The house consists of huge spaces constructed with salvaged beams and boards from a barn, and every one of the five bedrooms has an en suite bath! The spaciousness and roominess make Melissa's house perfect for a big family getaway, a family reunion, or a gathering of friends traveling together. (Destination bridal shower, anyone??) Privacy and spaces for communal dining, game playing, or just enjoying the views abound. The area is centrally located to many of Maine's wonderful attractions--everything from the famous diners to trips to legendary Monhegan island--and surrounded by recreational options within mere minutes. Beautiful hiking in Boothbay's preserved lands, sea kayaking right off the property, botanical gardens...Melissa was great about giving us tips and instructions for each one. The foodie or gourmet cook will be happy in Melissa's place--there is space for two or three cooks to cook comfortably at the same time on all the equipment even a citified eater could want, right down to an ice cream maker. (Maine blueberry, yummmm). There's an outdoor grill and even a pot for a clam bake. Nearly every detail has been thought of. Views are stunning from the home's enormous windows and deck, and you can be a nature lover right on your own property--from watching birds swoop to counting turtles in the little pond. There are mowed paths for walking. Folks with disabilities or families with very young children should be aware that the water aspect of the property is relatively inaccessible. It's a steep path down to a rocky outcropping (no room for chairs) with a portable flight of three tippy steps to access the water. In addition, as of now, guests are responsible for cleaning off boat equipment in a tricky way--I spoke to Melissa about improving this one aspect of things. But you can have more than enough fun without even going out in a boat--though I recommend that you do, if you're up for it. The peace of paddling on Melissa's stretch of tidal river was a rare treat! All in all, families, big parties, so many different combinations of people will love a mid-coast trip to vacationland in Melissa's beautifully fitted out place. It is truly "the way life should be".

Gorgeous property! Gorgeous house!

August 4-11, 2018 Farmhouse rental

We had a wonderful time renting this house. We had two families - 4 adults, 5 kids ranging in age from 3-8. The views from the house were stunning and the loft was a special favorite of the kids. We had plenty of space especially in the kitchen. Better organized and better amenities that nearly any rental kitchen I have been in. And Melissa was always available to help if we needed anything.
Though we didn’t explore the grounds to the fullest as we had a particularly humid (buggy!) week, we did find the views lovely. We also had easy drives to every location we wanted to visit during our stay.
Great house and great hosting!

Breathtaking!!!

July 21-28, 2018 Farmhouse rental

We had to find a place for 7 adults and 3 children for a family reunion for the memorial for my mother. Places that can accommodate parties that large can be difficult to find. From the moment I began to communicate with Melissa (and mind you this was a very emotional time), I felt her kindness and her enthusiasm for our reunion at her farmhouse. I was BLOWN AWAY upon arrival to the property and even more so when she gave us the tour of the grounds and the home. We never felt crowded and the kitchen was SPECTACULAR! Lots of tears, lots of laughter and LOTS of great meals filled 802 Back River Road during our week. The place is absolutely MAGICAL both inside and out. The price may sound high at first but when split it up it was quite reasonable. You will not regret it!
Thank you, Melissa, for everything!

Get away for relaxation and rest

July 7-12, 2018 Cape rental

This is a beautiful waterfront property set on acreage just outside of Boothbay Maine, a charming coastal town in middle Maine. The property has adorable details and the owner is generous with her time and talent and such a gracious host. There wasn't a thing we wished for the entire trip. The home is built well and coming from Atlanta we were a little concerned for a lack of central air conditioning, but it was all for nothing. The mid-summer nights were cool and refreshing and we enjoyed the open windows and sweet breezes (the owner does have air conditioning available, by the way). There was another family staying nearby but we really didn't see or hear them the whole time. We had a relaxing time in the hammocks, watching the wildlife (we did kayak with seals in the bay!) and visiting the local sights, and the evenings were cool enough for bonfires and smores. Despite the country feel to the location, we were less than 15 min from good groceries and attractions. There isn't anything better than fresh-caught Maine lobster. The wifi was consistent and strong and we were able to stay connected and work while visiting because while you want to "get away" complete disconnect is pretty unrealistic. We are thankful for the place Melissa, the owner, provided, with gracious amenities and hospitality and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone else. Sometimes when places are historic, they feel dirty but that was NOT the case here. A fresh coat of pain and attention to cleaning details left us comfortable. One thing to note is the checkout policy where you must wash and dry all linens prior to departure, planning for this policy in your travel plans. This is a unique policy to any other place we stayed.

Fantastic Family Vacation Retreat!!!

July 7-14, 2018 Farmhouse rental

This is a fantastic spot! The Farmhouse and the grounds give you a lot of space to relax and also enjoy Boothbay Harbor. We had a group of 10, which include 5 adults and 5 grown grandkids. The kids had plenty of choices inside to do their thing We especially loved the large kitchen and dining room. It easily handled the 10 of us when making meals and fixing snacks & cocktails . The Library/Study on the main floor is an especially cool space. The five COLORFUL bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, was just perfect for our family. The teenagers loved having their own space.
The outside and backyard were really great. Lots to explore. The kids loved the various activities and made good use of both the kayaks and the outside games and firepit for some mores.
There was a nice view of the tidal river from both inside the house and from the back deck. Just the right amount of water view to help you appreciate the area.
It was just 15 minutes to downtown Boothbay Harbor and the all the restaurants and shopping. You don't have to over-plan the day in order to get into town. This kids really loved Chowders Restaurant and we all enjoyed fresh Maine lobster at Robinsons Wharf. So Good!!!!!
We really enjoyed our stay and Melissa was more than accommodating and helpful. She was always available if we needed her. She truly places her guests as her first priority. We highly recommend Melissa and her home for
your next family celebration! Thank you, M, for sharing your beautiful piece of Maine with our family.

Coming back— Soon!!!

June 16-23, 2018 Farmhouse and Cape rental

We couldn't have picked a better spot to recapture and share with family & friends our memories of Down East Maine. First the all important tour— nice touch because there was so much there. It was Father's Day, so for the fist day we decided to make a Lobster feast (Pinkhams for Lobster) at the Farm. Everything was accurate down to the last detail. There really was so much to do right there, with all the trails, and gardens (the girls adored the fairy-gardening, kayaking, etc)... but as far as outside activities, the Cabbage Island tour was the all-around favorite, with Botanical Gardens coming in a close second—oh, and the Royal River Grillhouse in Freeport on our way back to Portland was Fabulous. Still, for me, another week at home at Bold Colorful Life Farmhouse, listening to the night frogs, smelling the peonies, and cooking up more lobster would have been just fine. Thanks for making everything so perfect, Melissa.

May 25-28, 2018 Farmhouse rental

This is an exceptional property, well maintained and ready for large families/groups. Conveniently located close to Boothbay Harbor area, many opportunities for hiking, kayaking, shopping dining etc etc. We really enjoyed our stay and we would definitely consider coming back in the future.

Beautiful

May  4-30, 2018 Cape rental

Bold Colorful Life Estate is a beautiful place.
The view of the river is great, and there are many fun little things to do all over the property. The pond is nice to sit next to, and watch the wildlife that lives there. We saw turtles, frogs, ducks, and a great blue heron. The color themes inside the Cape are fun and charming, each room being unique from the other. It's pleasantly close to Boothbay Harbor, but it still has an air of quiet peace, uninterrupted by the downtown bustle. Melissa is a great hostess. She keeps the grounds spotless inside-out. She's very nice, friendly, and helpful. We are very happy we stayed here, and we highly recommend it.

Great for a Family Gathering, Awesome Owner!

August 31- September 5, 2017 Farmhouse rental

The farmhouse is such a wonderful retreat!! Everything in the online description was to a T accurate. Melissa gave us a much appreciated orientation/walk through too, she is a gracious and considerate hostess. We are so glad we chose this place it had everything we needed to make our stay memorable. The surrounding grounds had so many awesome quiet places to retreat and the young adults with us not only utilized those but loved the second floor lounge space. All our visiting relatives not only were 'awed' by her creativeness, but commented they would like to return for a family gathering in the future, so bravo to Melissa! She even sent a few emails highlighting some daily activities going on in the local area. We will be forever grateful for the attention we received that made our stay so pleasant.

Hi Melissa,

We had a great time here at the Cape house! It's really a lovely place and it was just the right size for us. We were very comfortable throughout our stay.
The lobster roll at Robinson's Wharf was fantastic, thanks for the recommendation! If we ever get back to Maine, we hope we can stay here again.

Elegant Boothbay Waterfront Estate

August 21-26, 2017 Farmhouse Rental

This was a perfect spot for our family reunion: Great location - off the beaten path but is close to civilization. Lovely house - feels like a real "home". Nice layout - a bathroom for each bedroom, large dining area and multiple spaces for hanging out: 2 porches, den, loft, great room. Accommodating and enthusiastic hostess.

August 19-26, 2017 Cape Rental

Melissa was incredibly helpful. She met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the house, the grounds and also an overview of things to do and places to eat in the Boothbay area. The house was perfect for our family - everyone had their own bedroom and we could spend time together on the deck or in the kitchen/dining room. The location is great for exploring the Boothbay area. We loved our week in Maine!
Melissa - thanks for all your tips and suggestions for things to do. It was really helpful since we had never been to that area before. We especially loved the hike at La Verna and never would have found that on our own.

Family Reunion at The Farmhouse and The Cape

July 22-29, 2017 Farmhouse and Cape Rental

To Melissa: Thank you so much for all your kind words and for your thoughtfulness while we were in Maine.

My mother passed away last June, When we were kids, we had a cottage in Damariscotta and spent much of our summers there. Picnics at Pemaquid Point were among Mom’s favorite times. To commemorate her life, we decided to have a whole family reunion a year after her passing. We rented both the Farmhouse and the Cape to accommodate the large group.

The week turned out even better than I had hoped… in no small part because of the wonderful and comfortable accommodations provided. The place is lovely. It’s clearly something that you should be very proud of: fully equipped, completely stocked, well maintained, clean and spacious. And the attention to detail is amazing. It was a joy and a surprise that even after 7 days, we’d walk into a room and see some other interesting/lovely/curious (and of course, color coordinated) item that we hadn’t noticed before!

I am glad to know that my rather large crew was not an imposition or disruptive. The children are generally well behaved but with that many kids and that young, you never know!!! Their good behavior was a result of how happy they were. The spacious lawn with a range of paths weaving through the tall grass kept them running around for hours. The prospect of making ice cream one night and having s’mores at the fire pit another night also may have encouraged good behavior.

I am ever so thankful to have found such a lovely and comfy place for my family to be together and to build more happy memories as we celebrated my mom’s life.

Georgia Dawgs....

July 15-22, 2017 Farmhouse rental

The house was brightly colored and inviting from the moment we stepped inside. There were plenty of supplies throughout the beautiful home, and Melissa had thought of everything we might need during our stay. When we had questions or needs came up, Melissa was available immediately to do whatever was necessary to make it happen. The grounds are beautifully manicured and there is plenty of yard space for children to run and play. We especially enjoyed the rocking chairs on the front porch and the ones on the back deck.

Warm, inviting, comfortable, quiet...

July 15-22, 2017 Cape rental

My extended family stayed here for a week in July. Everyone loved the home, the area, and Melissa. The house has all of the needed amenities, plus oodles of charm. Melissa is gracious and very responsive to any needs or requests. She is there when you need her and appropriately out-of-sight otherwise, kind of like a fairy godmother! If you want a relaxed but interesting place to visit, this is definitely it.

Beautifully maintained historic house....

July 6-10, 2017  Cape rental

A beautifully maintained historic house on magnificent property located on the Back River. Lots of activities indoor and outdoor -- perfect for nature lovers, bird watchers, and those who like to explore. We loved our stay at the house, and wished we could have spent more time there. A great spot for a family reunion. Lots of space and privacy. Melissa is a wonderful hostess, knowledgeable, very flexible and generous.

There isn't much to say other than it was just a wonderful getaway. Melissa was an informative and gracious host. The grounds are gorgeous. The cape house is quaint with old house charm. If you like old houses in the woods with water access, this house is for you. Would totally return for another trip.

Excellent...Perfect

June 1-5, 2017  Farmhouse and Cape rental

This was an ideal spot for a golf weekend. Large table and efficient kitchen and large deck made a terrific setting for entertaining. The property is close to town, quiet and picturesque.

This Cape was rented along with the Farmhouse and was a welcomed addition to the space we needed. Both houses are well maintained and clean. It has a lot of character to go along with it's Maine charm.

Mike B, Ridgefield, CT

Big, Spacious. Perfect!

May 26-29, 2017  Farmhouse rental

This is a fantastic spot! Between the Farmhouse and the grounds, a lot of space to unwind and relax and enjoy Boothbay. We had a group of 8, split evenly among adults and kids. The kids had plenty of choices for where to play inside and do their thing, and that didn't compete with what the adults wanted to do. The Library/Study on the main floor is an especially cool space.

Love the large Kitchen and Dining Room. Easily handled the 8 of us when making meals and fixing snacks & cocktails.

The outside and backyard was really nice. Lots to explore. The kids loved the various hammocks! We made good use of both the kayaks and the outside games/toys (wife ball, etc.). So many options; easy to keep the day rolling without anyone saying they are bored!

Nice view of the tidal river from both inside the house and from the back deck. Just the right amount of water view to help you appreciate the area and set the right atmosphere.

Very convenient location. It's just 15 minutes to downtown Boothbay Harbor and the all the restaurants and shopping. You don't have to over-plan the day in order to get into town.

We really enjoyed our stay and Melissa was more than accommodating. Not that we needed anything but she was available if we needed her.

I'd definitely go back!

Delightful Maine Getaway. Location, Charm, Beauty

May 26-30, 2017 Cape Rental

What a wonderful stay at this antique Cape on the 15 acre waterfront estate! It was lovely to leave the hustle-bustle of Connecticut far behind and reach midcoast Maine and this lovely site. The quiet, the sunshine and breezes, the birdsong and the far off train whistle were all relaxing components of a great getaway.

I’ve been re-imagining coffee and conversation on the deck, looking out over the grounds to the river, walking through the beautiful Coastal Maine Botanical gardens, and hiking to Thomas Cove on the Bonyun preserve trail...
I'm remembering exploring the Boothbay peninsula and Southport island...
What glorious beauty ... the sights, the sounds, the smells … a total sensory surround.

I think I'll make this an annual getaway!

Room Tip: While the Farmhouse is beautiful, the cottage is truly charming. Offers privacy for families and groups.

Well appointed, colorful, Maine get-away

The Bold Colorful Life Estate is the place to go for an experience that is many parts: welcoming, comfortable, beautiful, convenient, and well managed. From the huge well appointed farmhouse eat-in kitchen to the sweeping views to the river to the appropriate and eye pleasing interior design and decoration to the multiplicity of color coordinated bedrooms each with its own bath and fantastic bed, the farmhouse is a great place to rent for a reunion for friends, college classmates, sports enthusiasts, and art appreciators alike. Melissa hosted us with warmth, clear directions, and rapid and calm responses to our needs. You need to visit this lovely place and all the great parts of this section of Maine like the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden and Moody's Diner, to which Melissa will provide guidance and many more ideas on how to occupy your time there. Go there as soon as you can.

Perfect Reunion Getaway

May 18-22, 2017  Farmhouse rental

This is the perfect spot for a high school or college reunion getaway. Each guest has a private room and bath - so 6 adults can sleep separately without disturbing others. The large kitchen makes communal meal preparation easy and enjoyable, the dining room has a huge table made from a barn door for playing games and sitting around chatting, and the living room has a piano for singing and carousing. The views overlooking Back River are spectacular with 15 acres to explore, and kayaks are available to paddle around and see an eagle's nest and other wildlife. There are lots of great restaurants in Boothbay Harbor and neighboring towns within easy driving distance - including a brew pub and an old diner with homemade fruit and Whoopie pies. The atmosphere is a throw back to earlier times with lighthouses to climb and hiking paths to explore - a respite from modern civilization. Melissa is a fantastic host whose owner's quarters are adjacent to the property, so she is readily available to provide suggestions that are always spot on.

A wonderful time, enjoyed every minute

December 15, 2016  Farmhouse rental

Melissa couldn't have been a better host, her warmth, wit and respect for our needs were all that we wished for. She is such an interesting person, passionate about her artfully restored farmhouse. August 20, 2016  Farmhouse rental

We had a wonderful stay at Melissa's estate, called Bold Colorful Life. The house is set high on a hill facing beautiful Maine waterfront (riverfront), with long sloping lawns down to the river. The setting was so beautiful and the house so comfortable that we had little incentive to leave the place for excursions. We enjoyed sitting on the wide decks reading, eating lobster, and watching the tide go in and out. Our grandchildren loved exploring the grounds, including the kayaking, the frog pond, playing hoops on the lawn, and making s'mores at the fire pit. This was a great house for a three-generation family vacation. Everything was exactly as described. Melissa was easy to communicate with, very responsive to our requests, and made us all feel very welcome. She was present on the grounds but never in our way, just available by text if we needed anything. A great host, and a terrific place for a Maine waterfront vacation.

We had a spectacular time at the Waterfront Cape. The house has everything one would need and a short drive into the Harbor. We spent all of our time outdoors grilling on the deck, kayaking, exploring the grounds/waterfront and enjoying the campfire. Melissa was an excellent host. She was easily accessible and accommodating during our stay and gave us the inside scoop on the surrounding area . I definitely look forward to my next trip to Boothbay as the town has so much to offer.

The Farmhouse is Fabulous

August 6, 2016  Farmhouse rental

We had 3 couples and a fifth wheel (me) at the Farmhouse and the place was fabulous. Bedrooms and bathrooms for each, with one to spare. All designed in bright and bold colors and two with river views. The kitchen and dining area were perfect for a big group, for cooking and eating and entertaining. Plenty of room to spread out and find personal space, both in the Farmhouse and on the property itself. I was initially concerned that it might be a little removed from Boothbay Village, but found that the drive wasn't too far, and some of the guests biked to the Village and beyond. It was truly a special place and our hostess, Melissa, was thorough in offering advice and recommendations about the area(even before our visit) and and invisible for most of our time there, unless we had specific questions. At which point she was available and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend the Farmhouse for the facility and its amenities, as well as for the reasonable price and the gracious hostess.

What a fantastic place to stay. This house built in the 1800's is phenomenal. Quaint historical house with a property that allows you to explore and feel like you are in your own home. Would stay many times over. The house has lots of personality and can work for all types of families. Our kids ranged from 13 to 23 and all had lots to do and relax with nature while exploring the beautiful surrounding towns. Thx Melissa for being such a great hostess.

Melissa was incredibly welcoming. She took the time to get us settled and give us a tour of the grounds. June 23, 2016 Cape rental

Our family of 6 stayed in the 5 Bedroom restored Cape. We had plenty of room to stretch out and relax. The lovingly restored rooms had a great mix of old world charm and modern amenities. The beautiful fifteen acre property is situated on the Back River and has flower gardens, vegetable gardens, a stone fire pit, wild turkeys, (friendly) foxes, and if you're lucky to spot them, bald eagles. But our favorite feature of the property was its owner, Melissa. She was such a wonderful host, friendly, caring, and attentive but not at all intrusive. She gave us the inside scoop on the area, what to do and where to go based on our interests. This made our first stay in Boothbay perfect. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful house in a secluded setting. Melissa was very friendly and accessible if we needed her, but invisible otherwise. The property was well maintained, welcoming, and clean. The town of Boothbay Harbor was close by with plenty to do and eat. I would recommend this property to others.

June 6, 2016 Farmhouse rental

This is a great place for a group of 10. Each room had its own bath which is always appreciated. There is a large kitchen/dining area for everyone to gather, and a library room for quiet book reading. We enjoyed the fire pit (bring a flashlight) one evening for s'mores. The owner has put a lot of work into landscaping and creating a lovely path to get you safely down to the water. We didn't get to kayak, but this would have been a nice, calm place to do so especially if you're not an expert at kayaking. I personally like the quietness of the home away from the town. Our room was cozy and quiet, as well. As far as the 'rules' some have complained about, I would much prefer the book Melissa provides with the rules to having to call her every 5 minutes with questions. She has worked hard on this home and wants to keep it nice for the next travelers. The only downside for me was having to wash the linens. If you're in a hurry to leave on departure day you'll want to keep this in mind or arrange to pay the extra to have it done. Not a big deal, but just be prepared.

Memorial Day Weekend, 2016 Farmhouse rental

WOW!!! Our group has been getting together yearly on Memorial Day Weekend since our children were small and we used to go tent camping together - that's about twenty-four years ago. Our kids are all grown and gone but we still like to get together for the holiday weekend. Since we are all getting a bit older we prefer a bit more comfort than a sleeping bag on the ground in a tent, dry pit toilets and no showers. In the past few years we have picked a location and then find a home to rent together. This home was the best we have stayed at yet!!! The home is lovely, spacious, clean and in a lovely setting. The host Melissa T. could not have been more accommodating to our needs while we were there. We even forgot a pair of boots and didn't realize until we got home. She graciously packed them up and sent them back to us! My favorite piece of furniture in the home is the huge barn door dining room table! Great for gathering around for meals or games! My favorite room to relax in was the great room with a beautiful view, a wall of books and a baby grand piano. If you are in the Boothbay Harbor area for a vacation or extended stay this is the place you want to be.

This has been my 2nd trip to BoldColorLife Inn and each time I feel like I am transported to a safe haven. We stayed at the Cape in the Butterscotch Amber suite. We had our own bathroom with a wonderful tub or shower. The coziness of the Cape is such a warm, relaxing feeling that you immediately feel less stressed. The morning breakfast in the dining area is a treat and just starts the day off right for whatever adventures await. You can't miss a trip to Boldcolorlife Inn and once you're experienced it you will only want more!

September 4, 2015 Farmhouse rental

Our group of 14 (6 adults and 8 children) enjoyed every minute of our Labor Day weekend at this bold and colorful estate! The farmhouse is unique, and bright and very well appointed. Just about everything one would need on a vacation is provided. (Other than a whisk!) I will admit to being a bit surprised that Melissa's home was attached to the main farmhouse, but found this to be of no issue while we were there. We are a fairly loud group (with 14 how can you not be) and I was most concerned that we'd disturb her. But she explained that though attached, there is quite a bit of hallway space between her living space and ours. And I she didn't complain about our noise, so... We found that there was plenty to do both on property and off. The kids rode their bikes all around this beautiful property, walked out into the riverbed at low tide, checked out the frogs and snakes in the pond, found a porcupine friend in the evening. All while the adults enjoyed cocktails on the deck with the amazing view, walked the paths, lounged in the hammocks and rode our bikes as well. I should also speak to Melissa's introduction to the property. The property, inside and out, is huge so we truly appreciated her tour to familiarize ourselves with the home and it's surroundings. Also, Melissa helped us navigate Boothbay. The best beaches, the best restaurants, what not to miss, etc.. We found this very helpful and did end up (per her recommendations) at Hendricks Head Beach, with a stop into Robinson's Wharf for some fresh lobsters, and McSeagull's for lunch on another excursion. She didn't lead us astray! We were quite happy with all our outings! Melissa also was kind enough to answer some questions we had about biking in the area. We found her to be very helpful, and very kind! Even taking our group photo at the end of our stay! This property is truly unique and so beautiful! We really didn't want to leave. I would absolutely recommend this property to both large groups and to those looking for a romantic getaway! Thanks again, Melissa!

August 24, 2015 Cape rental

We had our first extended family vacation this month and the rental provided us an opportunity to spend it together in one house. Melissa was an excellent hostess and provided us with plenty of information on things to do and places to see. The location was a perfect mix of quiet and access to town. The fire pit in the evenings during the meteor shower was the icing on the cake. I strongly recommend looking at this rental for a group vacation. The price was very reasonable as well. Thanks Melissa.

August 20, 2015 Farmhouse and Cape rentals

Our group of 16 rented out both the Cape and the Farmhouse for a family wedding being held nearby. 8 adults, 8 children in all. What a treat to all be in close proximity to each other yet have space to spread out. The property is absolutely beautiful with a leisurely walk to the water frontage where we kayaked and bird-watched. Benches & picnic tables were thoughtfully placed throughout the paths, and the children loved looking at the Maine Painted Turtles and frogs in the freshwater pond. We even saw a porcupine under the apple tree late at night! The Cape house dates from the 1800's and has been lovingly restored. It does maintain quite alot of character yet is comfortable and safe. The kitchen is plentifully stocked, and we wished we could have stayed a week to take advantage of all the cookware, etc. Each bedroom has a delightful theme, and the children enjoyed having their own little nooks for exploring and sleeping. Other reviews mention the policies and introductory tour . . . making us a bit wary. But the owner was very kind and engaging. The tour helped us to take advantage of the amenities both on the property and in Boothbay. And quite frankly, if I had a property this beautiful and historic, I would want to make sure it stayed that way too. For the remainder of our visit, we felt like we had the property to ourselves, but the owner was available by cell or email for questions -- perfect for us. We would definitely return to this property again, perhaps renting the Farmhouse next time for a change of scenery. Thank you, M, for sharing your beautiful piece of Maine with our family.

How fortunate we were to find Bold Colorful Life website after searching for hours to locate a suitable cottage on Midcoast Maine, large enough to accommodate our family. We were certain from viewing the photos of the farmhouse, with the striking colors in each room, and the accompanying grounds that this was the place to be. Our communications with Melissa reinforced our initial feelings. After spending a week’s vacation at the farmhouse, we knew we had made the best choice ever. Nine adults made up our family, with 5 grandchildren ages 8 and under. Each of the five beautifully decorated bedrooms, in a bold color representing various healing gems, had its own private bathroom. Our daughters especially enjoyed the amethyst room with its spectacular view of sunsets over the Back River. Meals were a pleasure to prepare and share in the spacious kitchen and dining area. The barn door table was unique and very functional. The children could play close by on the back deck and adjacent lawn. The landscape is amazing with its numerous pathways – dotted by benches and hammocks, allowing us to enjoy the calming sounds of nature. At one point during the week friends visited from Cushing and we had the most enjoyable walk to the river’s edge, talking, taking pictures and just communicating with nature. Melissa was the high point of our stay – so vivacious, hospitable, and more than helpful with recommendations on everything – from food, where to go, things to do, especially with young children- we never felt like we were imposing with inquiries. She made a point of being available if we wished but was very conscious of our privacy. In other words, we could not have asked for a more gracious hostess. In summary, this was a most memorable weeks’ vacation with family in Boothbay. We would love to return to Bold Colorful Life.

"beautiful estate!"

Wonderful estate to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounding. Quick drive to lovely town of Boothbay. Enjoy talking with the estate owner who is fully knowledgeable on wonderful restaurants, hikes, aquariums. Botanical gardens. Just ask! No question, the best place to vacation.

"I couldn't have asked for a better experience!"

We take an annual family vacation back to N.E. to see my family. This year I wanted to spend time on the coast of Maine and spent quite some time looking for a place that was suitable for my immediate family, my dad, brother, sister-in-law and nieces. In my wildest dreams I couldn't have found a better spot.

The Cape was beautiful. The property was breath taking. And Melissa, our hostess, was welcoming and awesome. She gave us an overview of the area, as well as recommendations of where to take family hikes, eat lobster rolls and get the best ice cream in town!

The property was peaceful, impeccably maintained and well thought out. And my kids were thrilled with the fire-pit, as they got smores every nights!

I highly recommend this beautiful estate.

The Very Best

Five friends and I recently spent the most glorious vacation in this loving, comforting and delightful home. And Home it is. After a breath-taking tour around our new home, we gathered in the cozy living room and said, "Let's never leave here. Let's stay forever!" While this wonderful home is called the "Waterfront Cape," to us, it is the "Forever Cape." Every room is magnificent. Every room has the character that you wish was in your own home. Everything was totally clean, comfortable and in excellent repair and the property will make your spirits soar. It is a place that will transform and refresh you. If it is a break from your overly-busy daily world that you need, this wonderful home-away-from-home is the place for you.

“Bold Colorful Life is a wonderful place for a family celebratory vacation”

We recently spent a week at Bold Colorful Life with the extended family in celebration of our parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. We stayed in the farmhouse and it was a wonderful experience. Melissa is very personable and very well organized. The house is immaculate and the property is absolutely beautiful. Initially we had some concerns about all being in the same house as we were vacationing with extended family and we weren’t sure if we would feel “on top of each other” under the same roof. It worked out much better than we had expected. Each room had its own private bath and we were able to convert a couple of other rooms including the loft area in the great room for extra sleeping spaces as we had more two more people than normal for this particular rental. The space worked out perfectly. The first couple of days rained so we could not spend as much time outside as we had wanted. That said the covered farmer’s porch in the front and the covered back porch area allowed us to be outside without getting soaked by the rain. We also found that the Great Room and the Kitchen area were spacious enough that we did not feel closed in. The kitchen is amazing and we were thrilled at the fact that we could all sit together at the same table each night for dinner (and still have extra room at the table). The property is wonderful for nature walks, and just reading/sleeping in one of the various hammocks provided. We also were able to bring our lunch out to one of the picnic tables for a picnic. Furthermore there are many benches along the river walk and the pond to just sit and enjoy the birds, water views and gorgeous sunsets. We were able to go kayaking off the property though it was a little challenging getting in and out with the kayaks but it was worth it. The tidal river is beautiful and easy to maneuver during high tide. During our stay all of our questions for Melissa were answered in an appropriate time frame and a couple of glitches were quickly remedied by her. A few people in our group were concerned at the onset about “sharing” the property with people staying in the cottage. However we found that even with the cottage being occupied during our stay and Melissa living there, the property is large enough to accommodate privacy for everyone. Finally, the property is only a short drive from the downtown area and grocery store. It was very easy to go into Boothbay Harbor for errands or to spend some time. Overall we all had a wonderful time at Bold Colorful Life and would consider going back.

Loved our stay at the Farm House

We booked the house to celebrate our daughter's graduation and it was a great choice. The property is beautiful, clean and well maintained, with plenty of room for the family and friends. The house has everything you need and more. It was a wonderful get away from our daily routine. We enjoyed hiking, the botanical gardens, sightseeing, a boat cruise and good restaurants and all close by. Melissa the property owner was very helpful and available when needed. We would love to do this again!

Charming, Nurturing, Life-Enhancing Accommodation

I have not stayed over night here but have attended many functions here. The decor and ambiance, inside and out, always leaves me looking forward to the next event in this lovely location.

Perfect in Every Way

We loved our visit. We were in town for our daughter's wedding, and needed a house that slept 10 people. This met our need in every way. The beds were comfortable and there is enough space that we did not bump into each other. The home is in gorgeous shape, and Melissa was available when we needed her for any questions. She was most gracious and always helpful. Since there was still snow on the ground we did not explore outside, but the views from the house were gorgeous. It was an A+ for customer service. I would definitely recommend the property.

Beautiful Retreat

Melissa, As you remember, seven of my family had a magnificent week in the Farmhouse four years ago. It was perfect for us, whether we wanted to spread out and find cozy nooks, or all be together in that beautiful (perfectly equipped!) kitchen or out on the deck with that long view over the meadow and down to the river. Some of us ambled down the path and sat above the water, under the pines. We loved it! This year, after an exhausting, tough time at work, the one place in the world I wanted to be was Bold Colorful Life. More than anything, I wanted a room in your sweet, classic Cape Cod with the daylilies out front. Though I loved the expanse of the Farmhouse, this time what I really needed was grounding and nurturing, and the Cape was where I wanted to be. Alas, it was rented for the week I had in mind! I still crave time in that charming Cape and I’ll have it one of these years! But you did a wonderful, nurturing thing for me, instead. You made space for me in the Farmhouse again. You gave me the same room I had four years ago, supplied the fridge with all manner of breakfast sustenance, and made space for me to heal. In my mind, I can still go back to all the mornings I made my coffee and drank it on the deck, looking out over the wildflowers and granite benches on the path down to the river. You are stewarding a truly beautiful expanse of land. And from Bold Colorful Life, I made many great forays! You’re so close to the Coastal Botanic Garden, which is a gorgeous place to ramble, with a delightful outdoor restaurant and really good food. At your suggestion, I wandered down to Fort William Henry and Pemaquid Light (climbed it dizzily to the top). On the way, I found excellent fried clams at the exact restaurant where you said they’d be. Melissa, the week was exactly what I needed. Thank you. Thank you for all the work you’ve done to find and make this beautiful place what it is, for the peace and well-being of so many people. Till next time, warmest wishes,

Bev P

Very Clean and Relaxing

We were 5 couples visiting for Labor Day weekend (3 nights) and we all had more than enough room to amble around in this very spacious and homey farm house. Melissa is very gracious and accommodating. I most enjoyed sitting on the large deck in back which has a view of the Back River. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood and is less than a five minute ride to Boothbay Harbor. Thank you Melissa!

Super Vacation Home with all the Right Stuff!

We are a family of 10. Last year we stayed in the Cape House which was lovely. This year we decided to stay in the bigger Farmhouse. It is a fantastic house. Truly a home away from home. My teenage daughter exclaimed "this place is awesome!" Everyone was very comfortable and happy having their own rooms and bathrooms. My 86 year old mother was very happy with her bathroom which was handicap equipped. The kitchen is well equipped and the large barn door kitchen table is a masterpiece! There is plenty of room for everyone and plenty of play space inside and out to keep our two toddlers happy. We also love the location. It is quiet and woodsy with a great view of the water. It is also minutes to downtown Boothbay. Melissa is a pleasure and very accommodating. We have already booked our return trip for next summer. Thanks Melissa from a very happy family!

Beautiful large unique farmhouse, private baths

The "farmhouse" is really a modern new spacious clean, well- maintained 3-story 5-colorful-bedroom house with old barn decor (and dining table for about 22 people), 5 private baths, large high-ceilinged communal rooms, on gorgeous very large property with pond and paths on tidal river. Owner is delightful, shares musical instruments and huge library, helps with kayak rental. Our 4 families had wonderful time. Swimming is negligible due to fascinating tidal mud flats, but there is a nearby public beach. Highly recommend!

A much needed home away from home

This property is one of the best kept secrets in Maine. There are two houses which rent out as vacation rentals on this large estate right on the Back River, and the Cape was the home that fit us best. It's a real, historical Cape Cod house, built in the 1800s...the owner even showed us a photograph of the house with a Civil War officer sitting out front! And it's been completely renovated, so all the rooms are comfortable and cozy. The bedrooms are colorful and perky, there were plenty of bathrooms, three TVs with cable and we had easy access to WiFi to check emails...so it was a nice mix of history with modern conveniences. The kitchen is fully equipped. We cooked lobster twice during our stay, and grilled several other nights...and had all the implements we needed. We even spent an evening around the huge firepit making s'mores and telling stories. The front porch was great for breakfast and we looked out at the river, the kids picked wildflowerss in the side yard, enjoyed the hammocks, set up the croquet set and generally relaxed and had a wonderful time. It was hard to leave the Cape to go out and explore the Boothbay peninsula, but that was worth it as well. Lots of adventures to be had in this area. This place is an oasis, away from the stress and strain of modern life...definitely therapeutic. And Melissa helps make everything run smoothly. Thanks!

Beautiful home, gardens and trails

This house was one of the nicer homes we have stayed in on VRBO. It was filled with all of the amenities you could need during a stay. It also is very well decorated including a very large dining room table made from a barn door! The trails and gardens are beautiful and our children loved running around the yard and exploring the woods and river. There are also great things to do in the area. We went zip lining to the aquarium and enjoyed the botanical gardens. We highly recommend this home!

Quite a place, even in the middle of winter.

5 of us stayed at the Farmhouse and found that it had all the amenities anyone could want for a comfortable stay. The only negative would be my mattress, which I found too soft, but that is just a personal preference. The rooms are well appointed and clean, while the kitchen/dining area is huge. All in all I would recommend the Farmhouse to anyone.
