Super Vacation Home with all the Right Stuff!

We are a family of 10. Last year we stayed in the Cape House which was lovely. This year we decided to stay in the bigger Farmhouse. It is a fantastic house. Truly a home away from home. My teenage daughter exclaimed "this place is awesome!" Everyone was very comfortable and happy having their own rooms and bathrooms. My 86 year old mother was very happy with her bathroom which was handicap equipped. The kitchen is well equipped and the large barn door kitchen table is a masterpiece! There is plenty of room for everyone and plenty of play space inside and out to keep our two toddlers happy. We also love the location. It is quiet and woodsy with a great view of the water. It is also minutes to downtown Boothbay. Melissa is a pleasure and very accommodating. We have already booked our return trip for next summer. Thanks Melissa from a very happy family!

Beautiful large unique farmhouse, private baths

The "farmhouse" is really a modern new spacious clean, well- maintained 3-story 5-colorful-bedroom house with old barn decor (and dining table for about 22 people), 5 private baths, large high-ceilinged communal rooms, on gorgeous very large property with pond and paths on tidal river. Owner is delightful, shares musical instruments and huge library, helps with kayak rental. Our 4 families had wonderful time. Swimming is negligible due to fascinating tidal mud flats, but there is a nearby public beach. Highly recommend!

Beautiful home, gardens and trails

This house was one of the nicer homes we have stayed in on VRBO. It was filled with all of the amenities you could need during a stay. It also is very well decorated including a very large dining room table made from a barn door! The trails and gardens are beautiful and our children loved running around the yard and exploring the woods and river. There are also great things to do in the area. We went zip lining to the aquarium and enjoyed the botanical gardens. We highly recommend this home!

Quite a place, even in the middle of winter.

5 of us stayed at the Farmhouse and found that it had all the amenities anyone could want for a comfortable stay. The only negative would be my mattress, which I found too soft, but that is just a personal preference. The rooms are well appointed and clean, while the kitchen/dining area is huge. All in all I would recommend the Farmhouse to anyone.

The Bold Colorful Life Inn was the perfect getaway spot for a reunion with friends. The Inn and surrounding property served both as a peaceful escape from the throngs enjoying the New England Fall colours, and a jumping off spot for a variety of sightseeing adventures including galleries, shopping, hiking, delicious seafood and more. Melissa is an enthusiastic host who knows the area well, and made great recommendations for activities. The accommodations at The Cape are charming, cosy, clean and self-contained. The bed was firm and comfortable, each bedroom has its own bathroom, and the kitchen is fully equipped. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

We had a lovely stay at Bold Colorful Cape. The house is so nicely decorated and cozy with all the comforts of home. Each guest room is decorated with a bold color in the most charming way, and clean and comfortable. There are walking paths on the property down and around the river, which is lovely. The owner was welcoming and helpful with information about local attractions and offered discounted tickets for the must see Botanical Gardens

I started planning a large family reunion in Maine when we found out that a family wedding was being planned in Camden. Everyone would be travelling to Maine so why not all come a week early and spend quality time together? I searched literally for weeks to find a location that could accommodate such a large group (we had a lot of coming and going but several nights during the week we occupied every bedroom with 18 people total) and also such a large age range (from 9 months old to 91 years old!!) AND meet our generally high standards. After finding Bold Colorful Life and communicating with Melissa, the owner, I knew this was the place. It's location was ideal for so many reasons - it was close enough to Portland to be convenient for everyone who flew in and also just about an hour away from the wedding site which made all the travelling we were doing very easy. On top of the physical location the property is IDEAL in every sense. Where else can you get 9 bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms (including a handicap accessible bedroom/bathroom that enabled 4 generations to spend time together)? That was a major plus for us. Then the kitchens are so well stocked - everything we needed to cook dinner and dessert was on hand - including a kitchen aid mixer! The table in the farmhouse was perfect for our group. It easily sat 18 around it and created a lively and fun atmosphere for us the entire week. We all agreed that the colorful bedrooms were just plain fun. It was wonderful that the linens were provided - so many times you need to bring your own and this was so much easier! Everything down to the water pressure in the bathrooms to beautiful flowers on the property to the fun instruments in the gathering room to the local hiking and shopping options made this a wonderful rental. The owner is also onsite which worked out well because she went out of her way to give us space and privacy but was also right there if we had any questions. Melissa was a great communicator - before, during and after our stay - and we were grateful for that. Overall this was one of the best family vacations we have had and a large part of that is because this property was so well suited to large groups. Thank you Melissa!

Hi Melissa, We wanted to write and tell you that we enjoyed our second stay at your Bold Colorful Life estate immensely. We hope to return again and again. Last time, we loved the Farmhouse…the spacious, comfortable rooms, the wonderful 200 year old barn timbers in the Great room and the amazing view of the river. Everything was even better than the website pictures promised. Our daughter wanted to repaint our whole house in brighter colors after seeing what you did with your Inn!

We enjoyed doing our crafts and having meals around that huge table….more than enough room for our 11 person group. The breezes off the river and all the paddle fans cooled the summer sun and the eagles and blue heron were a delight. The kitchen was so well equipped…there wasn’t a recipe we couldn’t create...and we made quite a feast. Thanks for giving us the tour and for answering our questions and needs along the way…it was good to have you nearby when we wanted you.

This time, it was the historic Cape, for our smaller group. Again, the colorful and whimsical rooms were SO comfortable and we got caught up on sleep…so important for our vacation. Our daughter brought a friend this time and they loved the cozy bunks and their own private bath. We love your wildflowers and the emerald green lawns between them, and we love all the stone benches and hammocks, in perfect spots for resting.

We didn’t see the eagles, but loved the bullfrogs and the last of the tree frogs around the pond. Thanks again for giving us the perfect spot to gather with family members, catch up with each other and with rest, enjoy the beauty of waterfront Maine and of the Boothbay peninsula. We recommend the gardens, lighthouse tours, nearby hikes and downtown waterfront restaurants to your other guests. See you next year!

Perfect Rental for Group of Friends!
A group of 8 ladies rented this farmhouse for a weekend getaway in June. We live in New Hampshire and found the rental online. Boothbay Harbor was fun to explore for a day. The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a MUST visit. Spend at least 3 hours there. Great for the family and any garden lovers. This was a perfect rental for our group! Plenty of private space for everyone and great community rooms: kitchen, porch and living area.

The kitchen was a highlight with the long table to enjoy meals and games after dinners. The large living room with the wall of windows was relaxing to sit, read, listen to music and enjoy the view. We enjoyed coffee on the deck seeing a deer in the field and listened to many birds singing beautifully every morning. The house is decorated with beautiful vibrant, fun colors. The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of dishes, drinkware & serving pieces which all feel new - not worn as some rentals. Great rental for a group - we felt like we were in someone's country home

Melissa was attentive to any need we might have and responded so quickly as we corresponded planning our weekend away. The rooms were so clean as were the bathrooms. The color coordination of all the rooms was so creative.. definitely planned by an artist! This is a special rental that would be wonderful for family or small group - comes highly recommended!

A beautiful spot for a wedding!
My fiancee (now husband!) and I, along with our families, rented both the farmhouse and cape house on this property for a week in early September. The houses are bold, colorful, and beautiful, as is the proprietor, Melissa! With 9 bedrooms between the two houses (5 in the farmhouse and 4 in the cape), each with a private bathroom, this place would be perfect for any large group!

Finally, the location of this property is perfect- close enough to Boothbay Harbor to easily pop into town for shopping or dinner, but far enough out of town to get away from the hubbub and enjoy some peace and quiet!

What a bold and colorful cape!

I recently stayed in the Bold Colorful Life Cape house with 8 of my friends for another friends wedding in Boothbay.  While a bunch of people were staying at a hotel in town, we were all very glad we made the decision to rent this house as opposed to the hotel.  The house was so quaint, cute and comfortable.  It had everything we needed...from towels to dish soap to pots and pans and olive oil.  It was amazing that everyone pretty much had their own bathroom attached to their room.  Melissa was even kind enough to get us an iron and ironing board so we could all look presentable on the big day, having traveled from San Francisco.  While the house was compact, it did not feel small and we each had plenty of space.  The setting is amazing.  We had a great time before the wedding taking the inflatable rafts for a paddle around the bay, which you can walk right down to from the house.  Some people even swam to the island, that is about 500 yards off the waterfront.  The setting is absolutely serene and peaceful.  It felt so good to get away! We've all been saying that we wish we were still living the Bold Colorful Life, since we've gotten back to California.  I would definately recommend this house to anyone who wants to visit the area.  I hope to be able to return some day.
